The Undead Lords

The Undead Lords were founded in October 1994 in AOL's Neverwinter Nights, set in the Forgotten Realms, and have carried their banner from world to world for thirty years. Their roleplay lore casts Myrkul, the dead god of the Realms, as the dark power behind the guild's undead.

The founding. The guild's own chronicle says that in the month of Marpenoth, called Leafall, Old Lord Skull called a single lich named Zerackus to gather the Chosen of Myrkul and find the way to open the Gate to Hades. His host grew until Lord Nasher's army stood at their door, and Neverwinter was forced to recognize the Undead Lords of the Realms as a power. With the thaw of Ches in March 1995, they were sanctioned as Neverwinter's first undead guild. Lord Ingen Jeger and Lord Alfric are honored as its founders.

The mission. In the guild's lore, the Undead Lords harvest the souls of their foes and gather the power to free Myrkul's trapped essence from the Crown of Horns, which the Kassat'ilani guard in the Castle of Bones. Out of character, the mission is simpler: be a tight, respected PvP guild in every game they play.

The worlds of the UDL. From Neverwinter the cult crossed into Britannia on the Atlantic, Catskills, and Siege Perilous shards, then into Norrath, Albion on Bedevere and Andred, Aerynth on Mourning and Vindication, and Azeroth on Archimonde and Ravenholdt. It has marched through many worlds since.

The ranks. The UDL is never a zerg. A recruit must first squire under a full Knight and prove themselves before being offered full membership, knighted through the Rite of Death as a Lord or Lady of the UDL. Knights call one another kin. Its leaders are Liches.

In later years Lord Skunk signed himself Ancient Lich of the Undead Lords.
